Previous No. 1 pick Dough puncher Mayfield and the Tampa Cove Pirates have agreed on a one-year agreement worth up to $8.5 million, sources told on Wednesday.
Mayfield’s arrangement begins at $4 million, a source told Espn’s, Jenna Laine.
The Pirates required a veteran quarterback with the capacity to begin to rival 2021 second-round draft pick, Kyle Trask.

Mayfield, the No. 1 pick in 2018, was playing for the last time of his newbie contract after the Cleveland Browns got his fifth-year choice in April 2021. The Earthy colors, who had gained Deshaun Watson in an exchange with the Houston Texans last offseason, exchanged Mayfield to the Jaguars in July. He played in seven games in Carolina before he was deferred.
At the time he was postponed, Mayfield positioned toward the end in the NFL altogether QBR among qualified quarterbacks with a rating of 18.2.
After the Rams’ last round of the 2022 season, Mayfield said he didn’t question that he was “sufficient to be a beginning quarterback.”
Mayfield has played for three groups in his initial five seasons, turning out to be only the subsequent player taken first generally speaking in the normal draft period (starting around 1967) to do as such, as per ESPN Details and Data research.
In his profession, Mayfield has finished 61.4% of his passes for 16,288 yards, 102 scores, and 64 capture attempts.
