DoorDash on Wednesday stated it will lay off about 1,250 company employees after growing its team too quickly at some point during the pandemic, making it the modern-day tech organization to cut personnel in the latest weeks.

The cuts represent approximately 6% of DoorDash’s workforce, according to an enterprise spokesperson.
DoorDash CEO Tony Xu shared the layoff information in a memo to the workforce early Wednesday, calling it “the hardest change to DoorDash that I’ve needed to announce in our nearly 10-yr records.”

In his memo, Xu nodded to the shifting financial climate. “We too are not immune to the external demanding situations and growth has tapered vs our pandemic boom charges,” he wrote.
